Haolang Med 1.9F PICC. The miraculous journey of saving life for the youngest premature baby in China

At Shenzhen Maternity and Child Healthcare Hospital, there is a tiny life that has touched countless hearts—a super preterm baby named Rou Rou, born at just 21 weeks and 4 days, weighing only 450g. The birth of this little one not only marks the beginning of a miraculous life but also the start of a journey of fierce resistance against fate. Prior to this, there were no recorded cases in China of a baby born at 21 weeks surviving. Rou Rou, born 129 days early, weighing less than a bottle of mineral water, and smaller than an adult's palm, posed unprecedented challenges for the neonatal medical team. Every step of treatment had to be taken with extreme caution.
(At birth, Rou Rou weighed just 450g.)

After successfully overcoming the first critical challenge faced by preterm babies, the "breathing crisis," Rou Rou moved on to the second extremely difficult challenge of "establishing a venous access." Establishing a stable and safe venous access was of utmost urgency for her survival and continued treatment. The 1.9Fr PICC (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter) by Haolang Medical played a crucial role at this key moment, providing a lifeline of hope. The Haolang Medical 1.9F PICC is designed specifically for preterm babies. Its finely designed sheath and puncture needle can be gently inserted into the baby's fragile blood vessels, minimizing irritation and damage to the veins. For extremely preterm babies like Rou Rou, with very small blood vessels, this was vital. It can remain in place for an extended period, avoiding the pain and risks of repeated punctures, providing a safeguard for continuous treatment.
Thanks to the meticulous operation by the medical staff at Shenzhen Maternity and Child Healthcare Hospital, the 1.9Fr PICC was successfully inserted into Rou Rou’s body during the critical window, minimizing harm to her blood vessels during the process. Like a gentle guardian, it silently protected the baby's lifeline. From that moment, the PICC began to continuously and stably deliver essential fluids such as nutrients and medications to Rou Rou, bearing the weight of immense hope and expectations. This small catheter became a strong backing for Rou Rou in her battle against illness.

Throughout the subsequent treatment, the 1.9F PICC maintained excellent performance, supporting weight gain and the development of her organs, and saving the medical staff significant time and effort, allowing them to focus more on monitoring Rou Rou’s condition and adjusting her overall treatment plan.
(At discharge, Rou Rou weighed 4000g.)

Rou Rou's story is a miracle of life, setting the record for the smallest gestational age preterm baby to survive in China. Haolang Medical’s 1.9F PICC opened a vital lifeline for this youngest preterm baby at a critical moment and played an indispensable role in this miracle. It represents the progress and innovation of medical technology, and shows us that even in the most extreme challenges, there is hope and possibility in the fight to save fragile lives.
