PICC is the abbreviation for the Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter.
A PICC line is a thin and flexible catheter that enters the body through the skin (percutaneously) at a peripheral site until the internal tip of the catheter enters the superior vena cava (central venous trunk) and is allowed to remain in place (stay in the vein) for several days or weeks and helps avoid the need for repeated needle sticks.
