Introduction:

1.PICC catheter can effectively protect the patient's veins from various hyperosmolar and irritating drugs, and provide convenient and safe intravenous treatment for patients.

2.With the wide application of PICC catheter in clinical practice, many patients still do not know how to care for PICC catheter and how to prevent complications.

 

PICC (peripherally inserted central venous catheter) is a slender, flexible catheter peripherally placed in central venous and the end of the catheter is localized to the superior vena cava.

 

 Part1.

Precautions after PICC catheterization

• What can be done during catheterization:

YOU CAN DO SOME EASY HOUSEWORK,FOR EXAMPLE: CLEANING THE HOUSE, COOKING,AND WASHIG DISHES.

DO SOME STRETCHING EXERCISES                                                         HAVE MEAL

COVER THE CATHETERIZATION CITE WITH DRY TOWEL AND PLASTIC WRAP WHEN TAKING A SHOWER.

 

FIRST PUT ON THE CATHETERIZATION SIDE AND THEN THE OTHER SIDE. 

 

• What should not be done during catheterization:

      DO NOT CARRY THINGS OVER 5KGS.                                             DO NOT PLAY BALLS.

                       DO NOT LIFT WEIGHTS                                                            DO NOT SWIM

          DO NOT WALK WITH A CANE                                                DO NOT BATH

 

  DO NOT LIE DOWN ON THE CATHETERIZATION SIDE

 

 Part2.

Self-observation, if the following conditions occur, please go to the hospital in time:

 

 

1. On the side of the catheterization, the arm circumference was enlarged,  the arm or neck was swollen and numb.
2. There was local redness, swelling, pain and rash at the puncture site, and the body temperature was over than 38 degrees.
3. Bleeding occurs at the site of the puncture, failed to stop bleeding when pressing, and there is  secretion.
4. The edge of the wrap is loose.

 

 

 

 

1. The catheter is out of the body and the catheter is bending. Please fix it with adhesive tape and go to the hospital immediately.
2. Blood return in the catheter for a long while.
3. If the infusion connector falls or breaks, do not reattach it to prevent contamination. Fix and bind the catheter with gauze, and go to the hospital to re-maintain and replace the infusion connector.

 

 Part3.

 

Take functional exercises after PICC catheterization, promoting blood circulation in limbs, reducing limb swelling, neck and shoulder pain, and preventing the occurrence of complications such as thrombophlebitis.
